Cairns

There are a number of informational cairns throughout Oak Bay identifying points of history or cultural significance.
Historical:
McNeill Bay Located near the corner of Monterey Ave and Beach Drive, this cairn provides history of Shoal Bay (later McNeill Bay) and the McNeill farm.
Walbran Park: Cairn and Plaque marking the significance or the early Spanish and English explorers.
Directional:
At the top of Trafalgar Park (at the lookout along George Terrace), there is a directional marker that points out directions and distances to various geographic points of interest.
First Nations:
Charles Elliot of the Tsartlip Nation designed the Cairns installed throughout Oak Bay. They recognize the First Nation's culturally significant places:
Sahsima – Harpoon Rock, Chinese Cemetery
Chikawich (King George Terrace lookout)
Chikawich and Tliwaynung – Beach Drive by Kitty Islet
Spewhung – Turkey Head, Beach Drive
Sitchanalth – Willows Beach Park seawall
Sungayka – Loon Bay
Thaywun – Bowker Creek Anderson Hill Monument
