Closure of Oak Bay Library Branch for Asbestos Testing
Oak Bay, BC – Following proactive testing, the District of Oak Bay has become aware of the presence of dust contaminated with asbestos in an isolated area of the Oak Bay Branch of Greater Victoria Public Library (GVPL) at Monterey Recreation Centre.
The District’s top priority is ensuring the safety of staff and the community. Therefore, out of an abundance of caution, the Oak Bay Branch of Greater Victoria Public Library will be closed until Monday, February 6, 2023 while the District conducts further testing.
The book drop will remain closed until February 6, 2023. Library items can be returned at any other GVPL location. The GVPL customer service line is open Monday through Saturday between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. at 250-940-4875. For more information on service impacts, please visit gvpl.ca.
The library is the only area that requires further testing. All other adjacent areas of the facility, including the Oak Bay Volunteer Services Society and the Hampshire Apartments are not impacted and services at Monterey Recreation Centre remain unaffected. The District will provide further updates following the completion of additional testing.
