What Materials are Banned from the Landfill?

For a current list of materials banned from the landfill and curbside garbage, visit the CRD Landfill Restrictions Web page.

Hazardous and Banned Materials:

Household hazardous waste (HHW) is waste from your home that you consider to be dangerous or of which you are unsure. This includes leftover household product marked flammable, corrosive, explosive or poison. Examples include:

  • Pesticides
  • Varnishes
  • Paints
  • Cleaners
  • Batteries.

Do not dispose banned materials through curbside garbage or recycling programs, or through the sewage or storm drain system. See the CRD Source Control Program for more information.

Most household hazardous materials are accepted at Hartland Land Fill. Sub-sets of materials, such as solvents, can also be disposed of at other facilities around the region.

See the CRD Household Hazardous Waste website for more information on safely disposing household hazardous materials. For an overview on demolition waste, view the Demolition Waste Brochure.
