Paying Your Property Taxes
There are many ways to pay, in-person or online. This includes:
- Online Banking
- At your financial institution
- In-person at Municipal Hall
- Pre-authorized withdrawal plan

Online Banking
The quickest way is through online banking with your financial institution.
Step one: Log on and add the District of Oak Bay as a payee:
Financial Institution | Payee Title |
CIBC | Oak Bay District Property Tax |
Coast Capital Savings | Oak Bay District |
Royal Bank | Oak Bay (District) Taxes |
Scotiabank | Oak Bay Taxes |
TD Canada Trust | Oak Bay (District of) Taxes |
Step two: Use your eight-digit folio number (numbers only) shown on your tax notice as your account number.
Step three: Enter the appropriate payment amount. Record your transaction number as proof of payment to keep with your payment information.
Pay by mail
Mail remittances to:
2167 Oak Bay Ave
Victoria, BC
V8R 1G2.
Payment must be received at the Oak Bay Municipal Hall by the tax due date or, if mailed within Canada, with a legible postmark dated prior to the date shown on the back of the tax notice, to avoid penalty. Please note that if this option is chosen, mail lost by the Post Office will be subject to penalties.
At Your Financial Institution
Most Canadian financial institutions permit payment in person, by phone, or through internet banking and at most ATMs. If you pay after your bank’s local cut-off time on the due date, your payment may be processed with a “payment date” equal to the next business day.
At Municipal Hall
Pay in person at the Municipal Hall (2167 Oak Bay Ave, Victoria, BC, V8R 1G2). Municipal Hall is open from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday – Friday. You can pay using cash, debit card, or cheque. Credit cards are not accepted for property tax payments.
A drop box located at the front entrance may be used to submit cheque payments 24/7. Please do not put cash in the drop box and make sure cheques are signed.
Pre-authorized withdrawal plan (PAWs)
This option allows you to make up to 10 equal monthly payments between August and May inclusive by authorizing automatic withdrawals from your chequing account.
The maximum amount of pre-payment is 95% of the past year’s net property taxes, after any applicable Home Owner Grant is deducted. This plan also offers interest from January 1 through to the annual tax due date.
The plan can be started at any time by completing and submitting an application form and a void cheque or a PAWs form from your financial institution.
The PAWs program will automatically continue until cancellation is requested in writing to the Tax Department. Contact us at propertytax@oakbay.ca.
