Oak Bay Recreation Centre Pool Closure Extended
Oak Bay Recreation Centre Pool Closure Extended
As a result of delays in the delivery of critical materials required for the update and refurbishment of plumbing fixtures in the changerooms at Oak Bay Recreation Centre, the current pool shutdown will be extended by three days to ensure all plumbing fixtures are operational ahead of public use.
The pool will now re-open on Friday, September 6 at 6:00am, instead of Tuesday, September 3 at 6:00am. Please note that appropriate pass extensions or adjustments will be applied to all applicable participants.
We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause and look forward to welcoming you back to the pool on Friday, September 6 at 6:00am.
Background:
The pool at Oak Bay Recreation Centre closed on July 1, 2024, to allow the district to make upgrades to the facility. The primary project undertaken has been the replacement of the dehumidification and air handling system for the pool, which is essential for maintaining air quality standards and supporting the lifespan of the facility itself. Following health and safety standards, the pool cannot be operated without this system in place and fully operational. This project dictated the length of the planned shutdown.
The second group of projects undertaken during this shutdown involves a diverse range of updates and refurbishments in the changerooms and pool facilities. This includes the installation of new waterslide pumps, the refurbishment and updating of the plumbing and other mechanical elements of the changerooms, the rebuilding of the sauna with new cedar, the refurbishment of expansion joints, the grouting and refurbishment of the tile in the pool and on the deck, updates to the flooring and elements of the lifeguard room, as well as painting and cosmetic updates throughout the facility.
