“Oak Bay Parks, Recreation and Culture Service Update for May 29
Oak Bay Parks, Recreation and Culture continues to monitor the information and guidelines provided by the Province, Island Health, and other authorities to develop plans to re-open our facilities in a manner that ensures the safety of both the public and our staff. These safety plans will be provided to the pubic with the re-opening of facilities and programs. For more information on COVID-19, please visit the District’s website.
Due to new regulations which limit group sizes, drop in attendance and enhanced safety protocols, Oak Bay Parks, Recreation, and Culture will now commence cancelling all time limited membership passes such as annual passes (pro-rated from March 17, 2020) and apply account credits respectively. The credit may be used towards the purchase of single activity registrations, future admission punch cards, program registrations, and/or facility bookings once our facilities’ programs and services resume operation. Please note that we are not selling any 5-week, 4-month or annual passes for the foreseeable future. If you would prefer to have a refund in the form of mailed cheque please contact Reception at 250-595-7946 and we would be happy to assist you.
We appreciate that our programs and services are especially important to you and our community and, as mentioned, we are working on plans for resuming services as soon as we can.
While most of what we offer is not available, our parks, trails and natural areas are open. Furthermore, our outdoor sports facilities including the Henderson Golf Course and our outdoor tennis and pickleball courts are also open. We encourage you to continue to enjoy these amenities to keep yourselves active while respecting the requirements for physical distancing and healthy hygiene practices.
When we do re-open our facilities, your participation will look different. We are planning measures to control and monitor the number of people in our facilities and to maintain physical distancing and adequate cleaning and hygiene practices. It will be a gradual process of reopening and it will take time to implement these new protocols to ensure the health and safety of our customers and staff, which remains our priority.
Although the timeline for re-opening Oak Bay facilities has not yet been finalized, we are committed to keeping the community informed. You can find updates on our programs and facility planning on our social media channels, our website, and through the District’s COVID-19 daily updates.
In the meantime, should you have any questions about our services we’re here and available to help you. Anyone with a question can always feel free to call us at (250) 595-7946 or contact us through the Oak Bay Parks, Recreation and Culture website at our feedback survey
