District of Oak Bay Seeks Applicants for Accessibility Committee
Oak Bay, B.C. – Community members are invited to apply to serve on a committee aimed at helping improve accessibility in Oak Bay.
The District is looking for people with accessibility challenges, lived experience of disability or those involved in local disability-serving organizations to serve on their Accessibility Advisory Committee.
The Committee will help Council and District staff develop an Accessibility Action Plan that will help to improve the livability, inclusivity and accessibility for persons with disabilities who live, work and play in Oak Bay.
Candidates may also represent a broad range of groups such as, but not limited to: Indigenous Peoples, faith-based groups, LGBTQIA2S+, newcomers, new Canadians, people of diverse ethnic or cultural origin, seniors, women and youth.
The Committee may also respond to referrals from Council or requests for advice from staff to address accessibility issues related to District policies, programs, services, built environments, infrastructure, and outdoor spaces. Council appoints members for two-year terms, with the option to renew at the end of the term.
