The District of Oak Bay seeks property access to administer immuno-contraceptive to Oak Bay deer
The Urban Wildlife Stewardship Society, in collaboration with Oak Bay and the Province, is planning to apply immuno-contraceptive treatment (IC) to Oak Bay deer once again this fall. This work is part of the Oak Bay Deer Project aimed at managing the urban deer population.
The District of Oak Bay is requesting the help of Oak Bay property owners to locate female deer and to grant property access for the Urban Wildlife Stewardship Society (UWSS) to administer the IC vaccination. The UWSS expects to administer the immuno-contraceptive to does from early September until the end of October and will be searching for deer during daylight hours (between 6:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.) on public and private land.
Property owners willing to grant property access are asked to fill out the consent form available at www.oakbay.ca/deer. Since property ownership can change, consent forms are valid only for one season at a time. As such, property owners who filled out the consent form in 2019 and who wish to continue to provide access, are asked to submit their consent for access in 2020.
