The Fire Department assisted Animal Control this week for a dog rescue over an embankment in the 900 block of Beach drive. The dog was in foster care and was scared by the Halloween events hiding over an embankment over the water. A Fire Fighter was lowered down the bank to rescue the dog and return her to her foster family.
This week the Fire Department hosted the annual Halloween Bonfire at Fireman’s Park. The evening was a huge success supported by Oak Bay Council and the Oak Bay Kiwanis Club. The rain stopped by 3:00 in the afternoon and the skies cleared up for a well attended community event. Thank you to Oak Bay Kiwanis for the Hot Dogs, Popcorn and Pop for the Kids as well as the costume parade and entertainment.
Lest We Forget - three words renown across most countries to show our remembrance of those who have fought, and those who have died fighting for freedom. It means that we will never forget. In Canada, we honour the day by wearing poppies, a flower that bloomed throughout the fields of battle grounds in France and Belgium during World War I. The wearing of the symbol of the poppy was made popular due to the poem, Flanders Field, written by Canadian physician and Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae after witnessing his friend and fellow soldier struck down in the midst of battle in WWI.
Please join the community at the Cenotaph on Beach drive Tuesday November 11 at 11:00am to honour those who fought and sacrificed to give us the freedoms we enjoy today.
