Thursday, September 10th -A cyclist was struck on Oak Bay Avenue at Foul Bay just after 5:00 pm. The cyclist was riding eastbound on Oak Bay Avenue in a bike lane when he entered the intersection on a green light. A vehicle in the left hand turn lane, eastbound on Oak Bay Avenue, initiated a left turn southbound onto Foul Bay Road and struck the cyclist. The impact sent the cyclist over the hood of the vehicle onto the pavement. The cyclist, who was wearing a helmet, was transported to the hospital for treatment non-life threatening injuries. The driver was issued a violation ticket for failing to yield under the Motor Vehicle Act.
Friday, September 11th - A vehicle was observed speeding westbound on Oak Bay Ave when it failed to stop for a yellow light at Foul Bay. The vehicle was stopped and the investigating member noted the driver smelled of liquor. When questioned, the driver denied he had anything to drink. The investigating officer had the driver submit to a breath test with a roadside screening device which indicated he had been drinking. The driver was given a 90 day Immediate Roadside Prohibition, his vehicle was impounded and driver’s license was seized.
Another vehicle was observed going southbound on Foul Bay Road and Oak Bay Avenue. An officer pulled the vehicle over to check on the driver’s sobriety. The driver provided samples of his breath and the roadside screening device revealed he had been drinking. As a result of the failed samples, the driver had is license seized and was served with a 90 day Immediate Roadside Prohibition.
Also on Friday morning, numerous 911 calls were received regarding a naked man who had assaulted another man near McNeill Bay near the 300 block of King George Terrace. Police attended and located the naked man who was sitting on a rock. Police determined that the male was possibly emotionally disturbed. After over 25 minutes of conversation with the male, he was apprehended without incident. The male was transported to hospital for assessment. Further investigation revealed that the suspect had assaulted another male prior to the police arriving. The victim was not seriously injured. The suspect male was released from the hospital into police custody and has since been released for a court date in November.
Saturday, September 12th - A vehicle was stopped on Davie Street in Victoria due to a noticeable mechanical defect. When speaking with the driver, the officer noted the odor of liquor coming from him. The driver was given repeated attempts to provide a breath sample but for some unexplained reason he was not able to give a suitable sample of his breath. Based on the officer’s observations and other investigative methods, the driver was given a 90 day Immediate Roadside Prohibition and his vehicle was impounded.
