District of Oak Bay Implements BC Energy Step Code
Effective November 1, 2018, the District of Oak Bay will implement the BC Energy Step Code. This is a provincial standard that provides a consistent, tiered approach to achieving more energy efficient buildings. The Step Code does not specify how you must construct a building, but it does identify how the Code tiers must be met through the help of an energy advisor.
In Oak Bay, building permit applications for new construction, including Part 9 residential (eg. single family homes, duplexes) and Part 3 residential / commercial (eg. larger multifamily projects, commercial and office buildings) will have to demonstrate compliance and be constructed to meet Step 1 of of Step Code.
