Nils Jensen, long time Mayor and Councillor of Oak Bay passed away Sunday morning with family by his side.  Nils served the citizens of Oak Bay for 22 years with passion, pride and dedication. Mayor, Council and staff at the District of Oak Bay are saddened by his passing and offer sincere condolences to his family.

Nils worked hard for the community, both in Oak Bay and across the region, leaving a significant legacy.  His leadership on the Regional Water Supply Commission helped ensure the sustainable and safe supply of water throughout the south island. His advocacy for the environment and the arts are reflected in the District’s Urban Forest Strategy, Oak Bay’s first Arts Laureate and the ArtsAlive public art initiative, among others.

The District would like to express our gratitude for Nils’ many years of service and commitment to the well-being of our community and citizens.  He leaves behind enduring bonds of friendship across the community, region and province. Our thoughts, thanks and prayers are with his family.
