New Deputy Chief Constable Announced

The Chair of the Oak Bay Police Board, Mayor Kevin Murdoch and Oak Bay Chief Constable Andy Brinton announced today that Mark Fisher will be the new Deputy Chief for the District of Oak Bay effective September 1, 2020.  Mark is 25-year veteran who previously served as the Chief Constable of Oak Bay Police Department from 2011 - 2013.  He also served as the Officer in Charge and Detachment Commander at various detachments with the RCMP.

Mark currently holds the rank of Assistant Commissioner and is the Commanding Officer of the Saskatchewan RCMP where he oversees all RCMP operations in the Province.  His commitment to community is evident in his achievements as a leader in policing. As the Commanding Officer with the RCMP he implemented a community familiarization program for all new members at detachments across Saskatchewan to increase their knowledge and connection with the community.  Mark was recently awarded the Order of Merit For Policing for achievements in policing by Governor General Julie Payette.

“The Board is thrilled to have someone with Mark’s experience and vision join the department,” said Oak Bay Police Board Chair, Mayor Kevin Murdoch. “We know he will be a great addition to the Oak Bay Police team, who are committed to service excellence, continual improvement, and to meeting or exceeding the highest policing standards.”

“As Deputy Chief, Mark brings incomparable knowledge and expertise to Oak Bay,” said Oak Bay Chief Constable Andy Brinton. “We are pleased to have Mark return to serve the community. His familiarity with the community’s values and demonstrated leadership abilities make him a great fit for Oak Bay.”

On March 27, 2020, the Oak Bay Police Board announced that current Oak Bay Deputy Chief Ray Bernoties will be appointed as the new Chief Constable effective September 1, 2020 following Chief Constable Brinton’s retirement.
