District of Oak Bay appoints new Fire Chief
Oak Bay Mayor and Council are pleased to announce the appointment of Interim Deputy Fire Chief Frank Macdonald to the position of Fire Chief effective April 1, 2022, following the retirement of Fire Chief Darren Hughes. Chief Macdonald will become the eleventh Fire Chief for the District of Oak Bay since the inception of the Fire Department.
Fire Chief Macdonald previously served as the Deputy Fire Chief with the District of Saanich Fire Department and brings with him extensive knowledge and progressive leadership experience in both career fire service and emergency management.
Mayor Kevin Murdoch said, “Mayor and Council are pleased to announce the appointment of Interim Deputy Chief Frank Macdonald to the role of Fire Chief. Fire Chief Macdonald will provide the Fire Department with exemplary leadership and long-term strategic vision for fire services in Oak Bay and the Region and we are grateful to have him join the team.”
In addition to his experience as Deputy Fire Chief and his role as the Municipal Emergency Program Coordinator, Fire Chief Macdonald also brings extensive strategic experience through his work on the development and implementation of Fire Service Reviews for the Saanich Fire Department.
“I am humbled and proud to have been appointed Fire Chief for Oak Bay. After years of working directly with Oak Bay Fire Department and its’ members and Chief Officers at incidents and through numerous projects and committees, I look forward to serving the community of Oak Bay and continuing the excellent work of the Department,” stated Fire Chief Macdonald.
