District of Oak Bay announces new Director of Corporate Services

Oak Bay Chief Administrative Officer Selina Williams announced today that Interim Director of Corporate Services, Mr. Chris Coates has been appointed as the Director of Corporate Services.

Mr. Coates is an experienced professional with over 31 years of experience and dedication working in local government who specializes in strategic planning, administration, organizational focus, and success.

“We are thrilled to have Mr. Coates join the District of Oak Bay on a permanent basis,” said Chief Administrative Officer, Selina Williams. “In addition to his wealth of knowledge and experience in local government, Chris is known for his very calming presence and meticulous professionalism. Over the years, he has been recognized as an effective leader and will undoubtedly be a valuable addition to team.”

Mr. Coates began his professional journey in local government in the early 1980's with the Ministry of Municipal Affairs. Throughout his career, he has served as CAO, Corporate Officer and Chief Financial Officer in five different local governments in the Cariboo, Kootenays, central Interior and Capital Region. In 2015, Chris joined the City of Victoria as City Clerk where he served until April 2021.
