Candle-light vigil for Chloe and Aubrey
On Saturday December 30th at 7:00 pm, there will be a candle-light vigil to honour sisters Chloe and Aubrey Berry who lost their lives on Christmas Day. The District of Oak of Bay is convening this memorial at Willows Beach and invites residents from the community and the region to come together to comfort each other, and to show support for these precious children, their family and their loved ones.
While we are encouraging people to walk or take Transit to the event, we anticipate that our neighbourhood streets may be very busy for several hours on Saturday evening.
We have been shaken as a community. This event is an opportunity to come together in grief and in love to mourn the tragic loss of two of our young citizens.
Details:
- The candle-light vigil will be approximately one hour in duration – 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm and will include formal remarks and music performance
- Stage area will be set up adjacent to the Kiwanis Tea House
- Please bring a candle
- Dress for the weather
- Reflective clothing is recommended for safety
Thank you for your patience and your understanding.
STATEMENT FROM OAK BAY COUNCIL
We have been shaken as a community by the tragedy on Christmas Day. There are no words to express the sadness we feel for the loss of these two young girls and how to truly comfort the profound grief of their family.
On behalf of Oak Bay Council, District staff, and residents of Oak Bay, I want to offer my sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of those two precious young girls. Our heart breaks for you and we, as a community, are here for you.
I understand the family has asked for privacy so while it is very important that we support them, it is critical that we do so in a way that respects their wishes. We must also support each other and I’m so proud to see that is already occurring in various forms, all around Oak Bay.
None of us escapes the impacts of such an inexplicable tragedy so close to home. We must also support each other during this time. Please join us as we come together in community to honour these beloved girls, Aubrey and Chloe. A candle-light vigil will be held on Willows Beach on Saturday December 30 at 7pm. Please dress warmly, bring a candle and a silent prayer of love.
Thank you to our Police Department, first responders and those journalists in our community having to cover this heart-breaking and disturbing incident.
