District of Oak Bay Invites Non-Profit Organizations to Express Interest in Use of District-Owned Houses

The District of Oak Bay announced today that they will be accepting expressions of interest from non-profit organizations interested in the use of two District-owned properties.

The District owns the houses at 1531 Hampshire Avenue (2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom) and 1538 Monterey Avenue (6 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms). The District's lease with the current non-profit operator of the rentals at those houses expires in early May 2022.

Once the homes have been vacated, the District will undertake some basic repairs and maintenance to prepare the homes for new occupants.

The District invites expressions of interest in one or both properties from non-profit operators positioned to provide supportive housing within the context of existing zoning for a lease term of up to 36 months, starting approximately September 2022. Long-term use of the properties will be determined following completion of the District's Village Area Plan.

“We look forward to hearing from interested non-profit organizations and learning more about ways they might use these two properties to the benefit of the less fortunate. We hope to find a partnership (or partnerships) to ensure these buildings are providing real community value in the near-term while their long-term future is decided,” said Mayor Kevin Murdoch.

Non-profit operators interested in one or both properties are invited to complete the form available at https://www.oakbay.ca/expression-interest and submit it prior to May 20, 2022.  Following that, Council will review expressions of interest and determine next steps.
