Kris Rice announced as Deputy Chief Constable
The Chair of the Oak Bay Police Board, Kevin Murdoch and incoming Chief Constable Julie Chanin announced today that Kris Rice will be the new Deputy Chief Constable effective July 3, 2024.
Kris has over 20-years of policing experience, most recently with Nelson Police Department in the role of Officer in Charge of Operations. Previous to his role with Nelson Police Department, Kris served with Victoria Police Department as Staff Sergeant: Investigative Services Division, Staff Sergeant: Patrol Watch Commander and Sergeant: Major Crime Unit.
“The Board is thrilled to have Kris join the Oak Bay Police Department as our Deputy Chief Constable,” said Police Board Chair Kevin Murdoch. “Kris is a demonstrated progressive, collaborative leader with a strong commitment to community policing and relationship building. We know that he will be a valuable addition to the Oak Bay Police Department.”

Incoming Chief Constable Julie Chanin will be sworn in today following Chief Constable Mark Fisher’s retirement.
