At 2:15 pm, police responded to the 2400 Block of Central Ave to investigate a "dog in distress” complaint called in by a nearby resident. A small dog had been left in a vehicle since approximately 10:30 am and although the windows were slightly open, the dog was panting significantly. The estimated interior temperature of the vehicle was 45 Celsius. Police made every attempt to unlock the vehicle before resorting to breaking the left rear window. With the help of a Victoria Animal Control Officer, the dog was removed through this window. While police and Animal Control were still there, the owner returned to the vehicle. The owner is from out of town and for a variety of reasons stated that the dog had to be left in the car. The owner thought they had taken the right steps for the dog but they were entirely unaware and completely naive to how hot the interior of a vehicle could get in direct sunlight and believed that some water, food and ventilation was sufficient. The owner stated that they had been checking on the dog every hour, but again was told this is inadequate care for a dog in a car on hot days. The dog was released to the owner who was informed and warned regarding possible animal cruelty charges.

A break and enter to a business situated in the 2000 block of Oak Bay Avenue occurred overnight on Monday. Culprits gained entry by smashing the glass door with a brick. Several cabinets were rifled through and an amount of cash was taken. The investigation is continuing.
Police received a report of a capsized kayak off of Willows Beach at approximately 6:00 pm. Apparently a female in her kayak was towing her granddaughter who was in a smaller kayak, when the smaller kayak tipped over. Other kayakers assisted the female, who had entered the water, and got them both to shore where the ambulance and fire were attending. Neither the female nor granddaughter required medical attention.
