Oak Bay Police responded to 105 calls for service this week including 9 false alarms.
On July 14th, police attended the 500 block of Island Road in response to an attempted break and enter into a residence. The homeowner discovered that person(s) unknown had bent back the screen to the window in the sunroom. Entry was not gained.
On July 14th at 10:05 P.M. , police were conducting a foot patrol behind the Oak Bay Rec Centre and located three male youth at the running track seated on a bench. The males tossed something under the bench. Further investigation showed the two baggies contained small quantities of marihuana, which were seized for destruction. The parents of all three male youths were advised.
On July 15th, at approximately 2:30 P.M., police responded to a complaint of shoplifting in the 2100 block of Oak Bay Avenue. A male had been observed walking a cart full of groceries out of the store without paying. The 38 year old male was subsequently identified by police and charged for this and a number of similar offences. The male appeared in court and was released on a conditional sentence order.
On July 15th at 9:00 P.M. police responded to a complaint of assault that occurred in the 200 block of Beach Drive. The complainant advised that her two sons, aged 10 and 7, were picking rosehips off the bushes along the road and throwing them at one another. One of the thrown rosehips hit a passing vehicle, the driver of which took exception and confronted the boys, at one point grabbing the 7 year old by the shirt collar and yelling at him. Although not injured, the boy was emotionally shaken up. The 59 year old male driver was subsequently identified and issued a promise to appear. The matter has been referred to Crown Counsel for review.
On July 16th at 8:05 A.M., police responded to a report of break and enter in the 500 block of Linkleas Ave. The homeowner awoke to find the patio door ajar and money missing from two wallets.
On July 19th at 9:10 A.M. police attended a residence in the Uplands where a substantial amount of jewellery was stolen. Police Identification Services are being utilized and the matter is still under investigation.
